The Tokyu 6000 series train is an electric multiple unit (EMU) train type operated by the private railway operator Tokyu Corporation on express services on the Tokyu Oimachi Line in Japan since 28 March 2008. Based on the 5000 series design, these cars have four sets of doors per side with a more aerodynamic front end design than its predecessors.
Originally built as six trainset each consisting of 6-cars, they were converted to 7-cars trainset in 2017 by incorporating an additional pantograph motor car made using recycled parts from scrapped 6-doors cars of the 5000 series. Unlike the 5000 series which are famous for incorporating newly built intermediate cars into existing formations albeit in different specifications (causing the trainset to have disorganized visual) the newly built cars of the 6000 series largely share the same specifications as the existing cars.
Further upgrades were introduced in 2019. Following the 6020 series, Q-SEAT which are Tokyu’s reserved seating service with special transverse seating cars were introduced to two of the 6000 series trains (trainset 6101F and 6102F) by replacing one of the existing pantograph motor cars with a newly built car. Although the newly manufactured Q-SEAT cars are visually the same as earlier made cars on the external (albeit in different livery wrapping) it has a rather unique quirk. Similar to the 5000 series, the AC units of the 6000 series are different between the odd-numbered trains which are equipped with Mitsubishi-made units, and even-numbered trains which are equipped with Hitachi-made units. While the newly manufactured cars for the 7-car conversion in 2017 followed this arrangement, the Q-seat cars that are introduced in 2019 all have their AC units manufactured by Mitsubishi leaving the even-numbered set 6102F to have a different AC units in one of it’s cars.
As a result of the replacement of the two cars from trainset 6101F and 6102F, the surplus cars were transported to the JTREC Yokohama plant in September of that year, and were later modified in 2021 and incorporated into the 5080 series, where they were used along with newly built cars to expand the Meguro Line to 8 cars.
This addons has each era and batch detailed specifically, trainset asset is included, and each has a changable trainset number where it suits.
